Last weekend, our talented aviation team took to the skies to help Cathay Pacific celebrate its sponsorship of the iconic Hong Kong Sevens at its brand new home – the Kai Tak Sports Park.
Accompanied by top-tier influencers and rugby journalists from The Times, Daily Mail, and The Guardian, the team enjoyed an action-packed weekend of world-class rugby, Michelin-starred delicacies courtesy of Cathay Pacific’s dining partner, Duddell’s, and a taste of Hong Kong’s vibrant nightlife.
Cathay Pacific has been a proud sponsor of the Hong Kong Sevens for almost five decades, solidifying its position as a key supporter of the tournament. This year also marked the first event held in the stunning new Kai Tak Sports Park.
The park is located on the former site of Hong Kong International Airport, once home to Cathay Pacific, and spans 28 hectares. It is one of the few venues in the world designed specifically for rugby sevens. Its cutting-edge facilities include a 50,000-seat main stadium with a retractable roof, providing an electrifying atmosphere for fans.
To mark the occasion – and celebrate 100 years since the city’s former international airport began operations – a Cathay Pacific aircraft flew over Kai Tak during the Hong Kong Sevens finals. The spectacular display was accompanied by a short film celebrating the airline’s rich history, stirring pride and nostalgia among the audience.
The new stadium and Cathay’s iconic sponsorship are already making waves in the media, with coverage pouring in from event attendees and more stories set to land on the runway.
