Christmas has Officially Started, as We Switched on The Shard Lights Annual Festive Display.

And you can’t have an official switch on without some Christmas carols, so to inspire this year’s light sequence and add some festive merriment, we collaborated with renowned choirmaster Gareth Malone to oversee proceedings. 

As voted the nation’s favourite carol, Gareth and his 6-person choir performed We Wish You a Merry Christmas - the highest ever carol recital atop a building (78 floors up and 867 feet above sea level) - and pressed the button to start the show.

As the UK’s tallest building, the switch on was broadcast live on the main BBC London News evening show, with VIPs and Media watching on from Clarion HQ at Rose Court – who enjoyed another special performance by Gareth and his choral at the reception.
